Announcing THREE NEW GERMAN POSITIONS in Burke County, NC, as part of a county-wide program to enhance foreign language learning in grades K-12.
Teachers will be based at a county middle school and teach exploratory German (grade 6), and articulated level 1A/1B (grades 7-8) initially; more levels/ages later on. Teachers will also work in conjunction with feeder elementary schools to build enrollment for German by traveling via the "Art-FL" bus, a rotating art/foreign language bus, that brings German, French, and art instruction to elementary schools.
Due to federal support for this program (FLAP grant=Foreign Language Assistance Program, US Dept. of Education) these positions have lots of benefits for teachers!
- fully-funded professional development (immersion institutes) each summer (these earn academic credit towards certification/recertification; w/teacher stipend!)--STARTS JULY 14, 2008!
- funds for materials development, textbooks, etc.
- travel funds for local conferences

Burke County is located in the scenic mountains of western North Carolina and borders on the Blue Ridge Parkway and Linville Gorge. The largest big cities: Hickory (20 mins to the east); Asheville, NC (45 mins to the west).

- Contact Burke County’s Human Resource specialist, Mr. Steve Demiter, to express interest in the position. Attach your resume so Mr. Demiter can start a file. This also lets him match up your online application with your resume later on.
- Then, complete the county’s online application (note: positions will be listed on Burke’s web site soon, but they are definite!!! So do apply now and list Burke County as a county of interest!)

Cary Academy is looking for an Upper School World Language Teacher: German/Spanish or German/French.
Cary Academy offers proficiency-based language instruction in a technology-intensive environment. Candidates should possess near-native proficiency in German, in addition to either French or Spanish, with a flair for creativity and interaction within the framework of the National Standards for Foreign Language Learning. Strong knowledge of a subject area, such as history, art, or music, within the target languages culture would be an asset so as to fully realize Cary Academy’s project-related and area studies goals. Candidates must also be willing to lead the annual German foreign exchange program offered by the school.
