The North Carolina Chapter will occasionally hold special events designed to promote and reward the study of German. In the past we have had numerous projects. One such project is the Deutsches Wochenende (formerly Vergnügungsfest), an immersion weekend that is both fun and instructive. Over the past several years, we have also put on the German Day, an exciting opportunity for teachers and students to showcase their achievements of the current academic year. Here students have the opportunity to utilize their language skills in a variety of fun activities and contests at various language levels. Activities include a spelling bee (level I and II); a verb bee (level II and III); a poetry/declamation contest (three levels); song contest (all levels); a skit contest (2 levels), a poster contest (all levels); and a T-shirt contest (all levels). All contests carry prizes for the best performance.
