   Welcome

Salem College

Dear Colleagues:

You are cordially invited to attend our next Lehrerkonferenz, "Austria: Scenes, Sounds, (Web) Sites." The event will take place 11 February at Salem College. It is made possible by the generous support of Salem College, Winkler Bakery, and "Old Salem."

All AATG members and prospective members are welcome to attend. The conference provides an excellent opportunity to meet with colleagues of all levels, to learn more about Austria and how to use Austrian language and culture in the classroom, and to shape and improve the content of our German Day for high school students (at Davidson College, 1 March 2006). For non-members, it is also a chance to meet with fellow professionals and weigh the benefits of membership. Aside from three great presentations, exhilarating business items, and relaxing Kaffeeklatsch, the program will feature a tour through historic Old Salem. It's not be missed!

   Registration

To register for the conference, please download the registration form (pdf), and return the form along with a check made out to NCAATG to Norgard Klages by 25 January by 5 February (extended deadline).

Conference fees are $15 for members or $20 for non-members. Full-time students and teachers in their first or second year of service may attend at half price ($10)!!!

   Map and Directions

Salem College
Salem Map

From I-40 going East (from Charlotte, Hickory, etc):

Take the Old Salem / Salem College exit (exit 5 D) and keep right (follow Salem College signs) until you merge to the left onto Old Salem Street. Take the first street to the left which is Cemetery Road. Stay on Cemetery Road until it deadends and take a right on Salem Ave. Take the next right--don't go into the Salem Academy entrance, but stay sharp to the right and turn into Stadium Drive. Keep going until the street ends in the Parking Lot. The building on the left is the Fine Arts Center (# 28 on the Salem map). I will post signs guiding you to the College Dining Hall ("Refectory" # 21) downstairs in the Faculty Club Dining Room.

From I-40 going West (from Chapel Hill, Greensboro, etc):

Do NOT take the regular Salem College exit since there is extensive construction going on and the detour signs are very misleading.

Take Exit 5D MAIN STREET, at the exit go right onto Main Street. Take the first right into FIRST STREET, then the next right into CHURCH STREET. At the end go left on CEMETERY ROAD. At the next dead end go right on SALEM AVE, then take a sharp right onto Stadium drive and into the Parking Lot at the Fine Arts Center (# 28 on the Salem map). I will post signs guiding you to the College Dining Hall ("Refectory" # 21) downstairs in the Faculty Club Dining Room.
