July 2001
Seminar for German Instructors at the High School and College Level
North Iredell High School; Olin, NC
September 14-15, 2001

*******************************************************************

Dear Colleagues,

The Goethe-Institut Atlanta, and AATG North Carolina are hosting a seminar at North Iredell HS for instructors of German from North Carolina on September 14 and 15, 2001. I would like to invite you to this seminar, also on behalf of David Savage, NCAATG President. The seminar will take place in German, but this correspondence is in English so that you may share the information with your supervisors (for possible CEUs, leave, etc.).

As you can see from the enclosed agenda, our main topic will be "Captivating Short Reading Selections" , one to two- page, power-packed readings for students with short attention spans. Possible selections include descriptive passages, diary entries, love letters, manifestos, news items, etc. ( In short, brief texts with motivational power.)

The seminar is made possible due to financial support from The Goethe-Institut Atlanta and AATG North Carolina. David Savage, as our host at North Iredell HS, is providing the facilities and technical equipment as well as arranging accommodation, food, etc. To partially cover costs, we are requesting the amount of $ 35 for members of AATG and $ 45 for non-members. This will go towards accommodations in a double room ($ 20 extra for a single room), meals, and of course the workshop and materials on Saturday. For participants attending the Saturday events only (without accommodations), the cost is $7. For Friday's dinner and workshop (without accommodations ), the cost is $10. Total cost for both days(without accommodations) is $17.

Please print out and return the form below and your check made out to NC-AATG by August 31 to the address below:

David Savage, North Iredell High School
156 Raider Road, Olin, NC 28660

scraggly@excite.com or (704) 876-4191 (leave message if necessary, but e-mail works best)

David will forward a map and hotel information to you once your registration has been received.
Accommodations will be at the Hampton Inn in Statesville. ( I-40 / Exit 151).

I hope many of you will be able to participate. It will be a great opportunity to get new ideas for the German classroom, exchange views, and meet new and old colleagues!

Sincerely,
Dr. Michael Nentwich, Direktor
David Savage, NCAATG President
