We are pleased to welcome you to NC-AATG’s annual German Day, to be held on Thursday, March 10, 2016, at UNC Chapel Hill in Chapel Hill, NC from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.
Theme: This year’s German Day is “Nicht alle, die wandern, gehen verloren” As always, students participating in skit performances, poster design, and the T-shirt contest must incorporate the theme into their work. The motto will also be part of an extemporaneous speaking prompt.
Scheduling Restraints: Each school may participate in all activities, though scheduling constraints will force you and your students to choose some specific activities for each student. We will post a tentative schedule as soon as possible to help you plan.
Deadlines: Registration forms are due no later than Wednesday, March 2, 2016. Receipt of all registrations will be acknowledged via email. Late registrations will not be accepted. Please mail your registration and fees in a timely fashion.
Fees: Required Registration = $4.00; optional T-shirt = $8.00. In other words, $12 gets students t-shirt and the registration fee. Lunch can be purchased either in the dining hall or at one of the food courts on campus. Teachers and judges who are AATG members get lunch free of charge and are not charged a registration fee. As with student T-shirts, adult T-shirts cost $ 8 a piece. (Become a member).
Drop-off and Parking: If your school is arriving by bus, we were able to ensure that there is a drop-off and pick-up location very close to the Graham Student Union. This location is on South Road on campus between Country Club Road and Raleigh Street, yet closer to Raleigh Street than to Country Club Road.
We will have parking services staff there to assist you.
Please see the attached screen shot for the exact location. This area is right next to a cemetery on campus.
If you need an address, please put the following address into your GPS: 310 South Road, Chapel Hill, NC 27514.
However, keep in mind that you will need to park across the street from this address.
We are still waiting to hear from parking services on where the buses will be able to park during the day, but in all likelihood that location will the Dean E. Smith Student Activities Center on 300 Skipper Bowles Dr, Chapel Hill, NC 27514.
If you need immediate assistance on the day of German Day, please call Tin at 919-265-9602.
Dining Options: Please remember that students will be able to purchase their lunch at any of the food venues in the food court in Lenoir and the Carolina Union. Or, they are also welcome to bring their own lunch! Lunch for teachers, chaperons, and judges will be catered by Panera.
