Here's the (now final) announcement of the program for our meeting of NC-AATG, to be held at the Career Center in Winston-Salem.

We'll start Fri, Sept. 24 at 5 p.m.
Sat.-only attendance is also possible (9 am to 4:30 p.m.)

Our topics: Das ABC von TPR Storytelling für High School- UND College Lehrer and Kommunikative Unterrichtsformen. Both will be excellent, and very appropriate for all levels of German and all student age groups.

Our Presenters: Jim Davidheiser, Univ. of the South (TPRS) Marilyn Davidheiser, Franklin High School, Tennessee (TPRS) Jürgen Weigmann, Fachberater, Goethe Institut Atlanta (Komm. Unterrichtsformen)

A detailed program is available as a pdf file here. Mr. Weigmann is speaking Fri night and Sat. afternoon; the Davidheisers' workshop is Sat. morning. Both will be great! And we expect to be supported generously by the G-I Atlanta, so the costs are low: $5.50 for Fri/Sat registration, $4.50 for Sat-only, and the rest of the charges are for (optional) meals. Pls. consider coming for both days if you can-- the Fri eve. Sessions and camaraderie have been memorable!

Descriptions of workshops follow:


TPRS:

This workshop demonstrates what TPR storytelling has to offer German teachers of all levels, regardless of whether they teach middle school, high school, or college-level German. With hands-on demonstrations, you'll experience the approach and have a chance to interact with two colleagues with thriving German programs who put TPRS to use every day. Through interactive activities, you'll be able to see what elements of TPRS will work for you. You'll receive a copy of Jim's article in Die Unterrichtspraxis and many handouts with practical examples and ideas. And four lucky participants will receive a complete set of TPRS coursepack materials provided by the Davidheisers

Kommunikative Unterrichtsformen:

This seminar is about interactive ways of teaching German. The participants will personally experience the different methods of teaching by using them themselves in many interactive exercises during the seminar. With slight modifications the teaching methods presented in this seminar can be applied to almost all levels of German. After the seminar the participants will receive detailed handouts which include descriptions of each teaching method and how to apply it in the classroom. All activities are focused on spoken German, sometimes in combination with short phases of writing.

• Enter Winston-Salem on I-40. ( Not Business I-40).
• Get off at the Peters Creek Parkway exit and turn left on Peters Creek Parkway.
• Go straight ahead (downhill) to Silas Creek Parkway and turn left on the Parkway.
• Follow Silas Creek Parkway to Miller Streeet ( Forsyth Tech. Comm. College on left).
• Turn left and drive to next stop sign.
• Take a left and then a quick right and stay to the right until you see the Career Center, behind the Administration Building (Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools).
• Park in the lot on the left.
